The Barton Community College women’s soccer team battled through poor weather conditions and shut down Independence 2-0 Saturday at the soccer/track complex.
The win keeps the Lady Cougars tied for fourth place in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division at 6-3. They improve to 7-6 on the season.
After a couple of days rest, Barton will play three games at home in four days this week, starting with a non-conference game today at home against Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa.
Rachel Ukena and Great Bend’s Kaylee Kerschner scored for Barton.
Barton men get much needed win over Independence
Suffering a rare conference loss earlier in the week, the Barton men returned to its winning custom on Saturday by defeating Independence 6-2.
Barton improves to 6-2 in the KJCCC, 8-7 on the season with an outside chance of still tying for the conference title with some help from other teams.
Jonson Shaad led the Cougars with two goals and an assist in the game.
The Cougars will face a tough week ahead as they will play three games in five days beginning with a non-conference game today at home against Northern Oklahoma College – Tonkawa.
BCC volleyball team wins three matches at weekend tourney
The Barton volleyball team split matches on Friday and won both matches on Saturday at the Air Force Prep Tournament.
The Lady Cougars started the tournament off slow, dropping their opening match to New Mexico Military Institute (25-14, 19-25, 25-23, 28-26).
After that, Barton loosened up, defeating Colorado Christian University JV (25-21, 25-14, 25-8) on Friday.
Then, it bested Yavapai College (25-17, 25-17, 25-12) and Dodge City (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) to close the tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Cougars host Hutchinson on Wednesday evening, with the match starting at 6:30.
