It appears Dwayne Brunson has a front-line sidekick that is going fit in nicely for Barton Community College’s men’s basketball team.
Darius Hill, a 6-foot-4 forward, had a game-high 19 points, to go along with 11 rebounds, and Brunson, a 6-7 sophomore forward from Bronx, N.Y., added 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Cougars pounded Hesston College 112-65 on Thursday night at Kirkman Activity Center.
“Dwayne and I, we have good chemistry from the previous year that we played together,” said Hill, a sophomore from Kansas City, Kan., one of the last players off the bench for the Cougars last season who appears to be the most improved of the returnees. “I know what he can do and know what spots I need to be at so he can pass me the ball.
“Now with another year together, I think we have good chemistry.”
Turon Parker, Jonathan Pittman and Algie Key led a host of Barton newcomers with solid all-around games.
Parker, a 6-1 freshman guard, had 16 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Cougars. Pittman, an athletic 6-6 sophomore forward from New Orleans, had 11 points and six boards. Key, a 6-3 freshman guard, had 11 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.
Sophomore forward/guard Carl Wallace added 12 points for the Cougars.
“We have more depth this season, so we have more people that can come off the bench and contribute,” Hill said.
The Cougars blew this one open in the first half, rolling to a 57-41 halftime lead. They hit 24 of 49 shots from the floor in the opening half and finished 49 for 89 for the game (55.1 percent). They were 45 for 70 inside the 3-point line on the night,
“They play together well,” BCC head coach Craig Fletchall said of Hill and Brunson. “Darius, like all sophomores, are on borrowed time. He knows  how to play and he’s a nice contrast to Dwayne.”
