DODGE CITY — There’s sure to be a shakeup in the NJCAA Division-I men’s national basketball rankings.
For the second straight game, No. 7-ranked Barton struggled against an unranked opponent and it cost the Cougars big-time on Saturday night on the road.
After a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division loss at home to Seward County on Wednesday, the Cougars ventured out West to the brand-spanking-new United Wireless Arena.
And, for the second straight game, Dodge City knocked off a top-10 opponent with a 91-86 conquest of the Cougars before an announced crowd of 215 fans.
The Conquistadors (14-2, 2-0) knocked off No. 10 Hutchinson on the road at the Sports Arena on Wednesday, and now have made it two in a row.
Tramel White scored 26 points and RJ McGhee added 20, leading four Dodge City players in double figures in the win over Barton, which dropped to 14-2, 0-2.
Freshman guard Algie Key scored a team-high 19 points and freshman forward Andell Cumberbatch added a season-high 18 points to lead Barton, which fell behind 44-35 at halftime and couldn’t get over the hump in the second half.
Sophomore swingmen Julian Rose and Carl Wallace added 13 points and 12 points, respectively.
In a game where 64 fouls were called, Dodge made a collective 25 of 37 free throws while the Cougars sank only 16 for 34 from the line.
Dodge hit a collective 29 of 57 shots from the floor, while Barton was 33 for 77.
