PRATT — The Pratt Community College Conference women’s basketball team was in the driver’s seat throughout Wednesday night’s Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division game.
Barton made several attempts to take over, but never could get a hold of the game, losing 65-58.
The Lady Cougars were able to tie the game four times in the first half, but couldn’t take the next step.
The final team was with 3:23 remaining before intermission with the teams tied at 18.
The Lady Beavers went on an 11-4 run to close out the half, leading 29-22.
Barton continued to fight in the second half.
With 1:34 remaining, an Ashton Bruner jumper cut the lead to 58-54.
Pratt missed a shot on the other end, but Bruner couldn’t get a layup to fall as the clock neared one minute left in the game.
After that, Barton fouled the Lady Beavers, but Pratt knocked down enough free throws to remain in control.
Bruner led Barton with a double-double, scoring 17 points and gabbing 11 rebounds.
Cheyenne Hedrington had nine points as the Lady Cougars’ No. 2 scorer.
Taylor Mayes also had 11 rebounds, and scored six points.
Barton hosts Cloud County on Saturday for Homecoming. The women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game following.
