No. 1 ranked Hutchinson Community College roared past Barton Cougar women 59-43 keyed by a 22-0 scoring run to start the fourth quarter.
The Cougars led 31-24 at halftime and 36-35 after three quarters. The Dragons (6-0, 1-0 Jayhawk) converted nine consecutive field goals, including four 3-pointers.
Hutchinson converted 28 Cougar turnovers into 19 points. Hutchinson's stifling defense forced 15 second half turnovers and limited Barton to just 12 second half points.
Barton (4-3, 0-1 Jayhawk) heads to Garden City Saturday.
Barton's Regina Donanu scored 17 points, 15 in the first half. Vivian Onugha scored eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds leading Barton to a 38-27 rebounding advantage.
The Cougars shot 48% in first half play while Hutchinson connected on 32%. Barton converted 5-of-21 shots (24%). The Blue Dragons converted 10-of-16 shots in the fourth quarter, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
Hailey Jackson led Hutchinson with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Kahlen Norris and Brynne Katcher scored 12 points apiece.
