LUBBOCK, Texas — Kandace Thomas of the Barton Community College women’s track and field team seized a gold medal as both the men and the women wrapped up their indoor season this weekend at the NJCAA Indoor Championship held at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
The Lady Cougars, who have won 17 national championships and 10 second place finishes in their storied history, finished 18th with 11 points.
The Cougars, who have won 10 indoor championships and finished second three times in the past 16 years, battled injuries to score only three points in finishing 29th.
Thomas captured first place in the 55-meter with a time of 6.8 seconds, the third-best time in Barton history.
Michelle Klepper finished eighth in the 5,000 run in a time of 21:00.96. Both were All-America selections.
The Barton men were led by Keirston Lightbourne, who captured seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.91 meters. Tony Green finished eighth in the triple jump at 14.3.
Barton baseball, softball have schedule changes
Barton’s baseball games at Pratt schedule for today and Wednesday have been moved to Thursday.
Additionally, the games will be played at Lawson-Biggs Field. Pratt will still be listed as the home team.
Games will begin at 4 p.m. There will be a seven-inning game and a nine-inning game.
The Barton Lady Cougars softball game against Sterling College JV today has been called off due to unplayable field conditions.
Both teams are currently trying to reschedule the games.
