STAFFORD – For St. John, it was a historic 8-Man 2 District 7 football victory. The Tigers shocked Stafford 36-28 in overtime to capture the unofficial Stafford County Super Bowl Friday. The Tigers (3-2, 1-0 District) had finished 11-77 the past 10 seasons.
Eli Foote caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Braxton Alpers for the game-winning score and Llanas caught the 2-pointer. Abelardo Llanas helped tie the score 28-28 on a 6-yard touchdown run and 2-point pass from Alpers.
St. John’s Daniel Portillo scored two touchdowns and Jace Reyes scored on a 75-yard kickoff return. Alpers completed two touchdown passes.
Stafford halfback Cody Knoche scored three rushing touchdowns and quarterback Jacob Simmons completed a touchdown pass to Dylan Brozek.
Stafford (1-4, 0-2 District) preserved a 28-20 lead when Knoche and Tuff Pope intercepted second-half passes. But Alpers put together a clutch game-tying touchdown and 2-pointer.
