ELLSWORTH – No. 7 state-ranked 4A Nickerson edged No. 5 state-ranked 2A Ellinwood 23-25, 25-22, 25-14 in a hard-fought, three-set match for the Ellsworth Tournament championship. Nickerson and Ellinwood also defeated Central Plains, Ellsworth, Republic County and Salina Sacred Heart in the round-robin tournament.

Tiger Carlson wins three events at Kinsley

KINSLEY —Pawnee Heights Tiger Brady Carlson swept first place in the high jump (5-8), long jump (19-01/2) and triple jump (41-51/2) at the Kinsley track meet. The Tigers placed runner-up in the 400-meter relay (56.16). Macksville's Hector Gomez won the 100 meters (11.51) and placed second in the 200 (25.23). Pawnee Heights Tiger Abby Hands won the discus (112-8) and javelin (97-10) and placed second in the shot put (33-111/2). Other first-place winners were Macksville's Diana Ibarra, 100 (13.79) and 200 (30.31). Runner-up medals were earned by Macksville's Ava Chadd, long jump (14-93/4) and Pawnee Heights' Abby Pelton, triple jump (30-71/2).
