HUTCHINSON – Great Bend’s slugger Simon Larranaga won the home-run contest in Tuesday’s Sunflower Collegiate League All-Star Showcase. Larranaga (Pont Belvieu, Texas) hit two homers for a 2-1 championship victory over Wichita Lobo Angel Cano. Larranaga from Temple College (Texas) ripped five homers in the first round and five homers in the semifinals.

Six Bat Cats played for the winning Stars team, which won the all-star game 15-4. Bat Cats pitchers George Austin and Matt Nedved each threw a shutout inning. Austin struck out two batters and Nedved one. Matthew Howell yielded one run in one inning.

At the plate, Alex Rodgers doubled and was hit by a pitch. Kyle Gates doubled. Larranaga went hitless in three at-bats.
