BAT CATS 7, SLUGGERS 4 – Third baseman Noah Best drove home two runs to spark the Great Bend Bat Cats past the 316 Sluggers 7-4 Wednesday at Al Burns Memorial Field.
Pitcher David Blackburn (3-1) struck out six batters in seven innings. Ethan Thomas struck out four batters.
Zane Spinn singled home Noah Best and Jett Forrest singled in Brady Michel in a two-run first inning.
Best’s two-run double scored Tyler Henry and Kyle Gates to spark a five-run sixth inning. Bat Cats Brady Michel continued his player/coach role with a run-scoring single to score Alex Rodgers. Best scored on an error and Michel scored on a bases-loaded walk for a 7-0 lead.
The Sluggers’ Payton Tolle doubled home Alex Ronk and Trey DeGarmo singled in Tolle in a three-run seventh inning. DeGarmo and Jerimiah Cesar scored on wild pitches for the Sluggers’ final two runs.
BAT CATS 11, REBELS 4 – Shortstop Zane Spinn drove home three runs and the Bat Cats delivered six extra-base hits in an 11-4 victory over the Newton Rebels Tuesday at Al Burns Memorial Field. Bat Cats pitcher Ethan Thomas (3-0) struck out nine batters in seven innings.
Former Barton Cougar and Great Bend native Brady Michel made his 2021 debut for the Bat Cats to give J.D. Ortiz a night off.
Spinn singled home Alex Rodgers to start a three-run first inning. Michel singled home Noah Best and Micah Grover scored on a Jett Forrest sacrifice fly. Best's second-inning single scored Tyler Henry. Best scored on Spinn's fifth-inning sacrifice fly.
Henry's single scored Brett Greiberg and Kyle Gates scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning. Spinn scored on a wild pitch after his triple scored Grover to start a four-run seventh inning. Michel scored on Freiberg's triple and Gates doubled home Freiberg for an 11-4 score.
Newton’s Anthony Zellner singled home Max Doshier and Rickey Hockett in the second inning. Doshier scored on fourth-inning bases-loaded walk. Tysaac Noland scored on Andrew Brautman's fifth-inning sacrifice fly.
