Cardinals roar past Panthers

NICKERSON – The Hoisington /Central Plains Cardinals fired up the bats with a dominating 11-2 and 23-13 sweep over Nickerson in Tuesday’s Central Kansas League doubleheader. The Cardinals (7-10, 5-10 CKL) scored six runs in the first inning of the opener and 12 runs in the first inning in the second game against Nickerson (1-19, 1-17 CKL).

CARDINALS 11, PANTHERS 2 (G1) – Hoisington’s Chase Steinert ignited a 6-run opening inning with a 2-run double that scored Tony Moore and Leyton Haxton. He duplicated the trick with a 2-run double that scored Moore and Haxton in a 4-run third inning.

M.J. Aylward, Moore, Lane French, Alex Elmore, Linsner and Gratton Dalton each drove in a run.

Nickerson’s Camden Cornelius singled home Colton Morrell and Hunter McVey doubled home Jace Byard.

CARDINALS 23, PANTHERS 13 (G2) – The Cardinals rapped out 10 extra-base hits and 24 hits. Hoisington’s Steinert doubled his fun with his second 4-RBI game with two doubles. Lance French doubled twice and drove home four runs. Aylward drove in three runs and Moore, Rhen Galla and Elmore each drove home two runs.

Nickerson’s Colton Morrell singled four times and drove home three runs. Bronson Nuss, Kohen Starnes and Jace Byard each drove home two runs.

PANTHERS 16, PRATT 11 (G1) — DeShawnna Bryant drilled a game-clinching 3-run homer after the Panthers' 12-run lead was sliced to 13-11. Bryant drove home four runs with three hits and three runs scored. The Panthers led 12-0 on a 9-run second inning and a 3-run third frame. Callie Umphres drove home four runs with three hits. Kya Behr plated three runs with a pair of singles. Kamryn Koelsch, Alyssa McCauley, Denver Ringo and Chayla Prendergast drove in runs. After three shutout innings, Pratt roughed up starter McCauley for seven earned runs and a trio of homers. Pratt's Copus ripped a 2-run and 3-run homer. Sydney Riley hit a 2-run homer.
