Cardinal softball makes 3A semifinals

Hoisington's softball team converted back-to-back errors into a 7-run inning to roll past Smoky Valley 8-1 in Monday's 3A Hoisington softball regional. Monday's games were shifted to the Great Bend Sports Complex due to wet fields at Hoisington.

The Cardinals (19-6) meet Beloit (15-7) in Tuesday's 4 p.m. semifinal. SE Saline (20-3) meets Ellsworth (12-7) at 2 p.m.

Gabby Reif scored on Claire Crutcher's single to ignite a 7-run second inning. Tricia Schremmer's walk forced home a run. Four runs scored when Kylie Kempke and Carly Delzeit reached base on back-to-back errors. Delzeit scored on Reif's single for a 7-0 lead.

Smoky Valley's Kelee Adam scored on a third-inning groundout.

Ellie Crawford tripled and scored on Kempke's sixth-inning single.

Hoisington converted two defensive gems. Second baseman Steiner and shortstop Crawford turned a 4-6-3 double play. Pitcher Boxberger threw out Kate Griffin at home. 

Crawford (10-2) struck out eight batters in four innings of shutout pitching.

ELLSWORTH 13, MINNEAPOLIS 3 — Isabelle Lindsley drove in three runs and Kenna Haas and Paityn Tenbrink each drove in two runs.

BELOIT 7, PLAINVILLE 1 — Beloit's Sharayah Smith drove in four runs and K. Follis drove in three runs. Beloit pitcher Peyton Remus struck out 13 batters.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
