Cardinal softball sweeps Hillsboro

HILLSBORO — Hoisington's Kassidy Nixon delivered nine consecutive hits to spark the Cardinals past Hillsboro 14-0 and 13-3 in Friday's Central Kansas League softball doubleheader.

Hoisington (13-3, 12-2 CKL) stays one game behind Haven for first place heading to Larned (7-9, 5-9) CKL) May 3. Hillsboro drops to 9-5, 7-5 CKL.

HOISINGTON 14, HILLSBORO 1 — Nixon doubled twice and drove home three runs and Brooke Steinert drove home three runs. Pitcher Taylor Boxberger (8-3) struck out seven batters.

Gracie Aylward, Trinity Dolezal, Taylor Boxberger, Kadence Urban and Steinert delivered RBIs in the first inning. Kadence Urban and Kenzie Wolf scored third-inning runs. Jenna Urban singled home Nixon for an 8-0 lead. Hillsboro's Trinity Malm singled home Dani Klein in the fourth inning. 

Nixon doubled home Steinert in the fifth inning. Steinert  and Nixon drilled two-run doubles in a five-run sixth inning. Trinity Dolezal scored on a passed ball.

HOISINGTON 13, HILLSBORO 3 — Nixon (4-0) struck out six batters and delivered two doubles and two triples. Kadence Urban drove home four runs.

Nixon, Gracie Aylward, Jenna Urban and Kadence Urban drove in first-inning runs. Aylward, Dolezal and Boxberger drove home second-inning runs for a 7-0 lead. Hillsboro's Cheyenne Bernhardt and Ava Weisbeck drove home runs and Klein scored on a third-inning error.

Aylward tripled home Steinert and Dolezal singled home Aylward in the fourth inning. Kadence Urban tripled home Aylward, Dolezal and Janna Urban in a four-run fifth inning. Wolf scored on a passed ball.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
