Cardinals split baseball twin bill

HAVEN – Hoisington’s All-CKL Tony Moore drove home two runs and scored a run as the Cardinals edged Haven 4-2 to split Tuesday’s Central Kansas League baseball doubleheader. Haven (10-4, 5-3 CKL) won the opener 7-5 over the Cardinals (4-8, 4-6 CKL).

CARDINALS 4, WILDCATS 2 (G2) – Cardinal pitchers Preston Roat and Gratton Dalton held Haven to zero earned runs. Reliever Mason Martin earned a save with two strikeouts.

Moore scored on a Marcus Ingram first-inning sacrifice fly. Moore singled home Roat in the third inning. Roat scored on a passed ball and Rhen Galla scored on Moore’s fifth-inning sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead.

Haven’s Ty Lastinger doubled home Brogan Wray after he reached on a fifth-inning error. Chandler Ingold scored on Nash Wray’s sixth-inning sacrifice fly.

WILDCATS 7, CARDINALS 5 (G1) – Haven rallied from a 5-4 deficit with a 3-run sixth inning for a 7-5 victory. Cody Schoenhoff scored on an error after singling home Chandler Ingold and Dalton Bontrager.

Ingram, Lance French and Martin singled in first-inning runs. Haven's Loughrie scored on a first-inning error. Moore scored on Dalton's sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead. Ty Lastinger's 2-run single sliced the lead to 4-3. Loughrie scored on a fifth-inning error for a 4-4 tie.

Galla's sixth-inning single scored Aiden Hekele for a 5-4 Cardinal lead.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
