Cardinal Tarlton places 20th at State XC, Hoisington earns 9th place

LAWRENCE – Hoisington's Central Kansas League medalist Kamden Tarlton (16:43.3) earned the 20th-place medal at Saturday's 3A state cross country championship. Tarlton had previously placed 22nd and 43rd at the state meet. 

The Cardinals (203) placed ninth by also counting 59th-place  Michael Hipp, 18:20.2; 67th-place Eli Lewis, 18:32.4; 68th-place Alex Mater, 18:35.0; and 75th-place Brody Rossman, 18:58.3. In previous state meets, Lewis placed 57th, and Mater finished 95th.

3A GIRLS – Hoisington’s Tristin Compton (21:09.5) placed 27th in the 3A state cross country race.

Temperatures were in the 40s with light rain and wind Saturday.

2A BOYS STATE – Ellinwood's state qualifier Ryan Pohlman (17:58.7) placed 37th at the 2A state cross country championship at Wamego.

1A  BOYS STATE – St. John's Quade Smith (17:37.0) earned 14th-medalist honors and Stafford's Joel Valadez (17:38.6) was 16th medalist at 1A state at Wamego. St. John's Ian Dunn (18:43.4) placed 44th.

1A GIRLS STATE – Otis-Bison's Destiny Mitchell (22:19.0) finished 39th at 1A state cross country at Wamego. Mitchell had placed ninth and 38th in two prior state meet appearances.
