Cardinals split baseball twin bill

LYONS — The Hoisington Cardinals rallied for a split with an 8-3 baseball victory over Lyons in Tuesday’s Central Kansas League doubleheader. Lyons won the opener 3-2.
Hoisington coach Eric Steiner earned his first coaching victory.
LYONS 3, HOISINGTON 2 (G1) — Dawson Stover singled in the game-winning run off reliever Shawn Ingram and earned the pitching victory by working the final two innings.
Hoisington starter Holt Hanzlick struck out nine batters in three innings. Hanzlick delivered three hits and drove in a run. Ingram had two singles. Cole Steinert and Tony Moore scored runs. Moore and Wyatt Wikum singled.
HOISINGTON 8, LYONS 3 (G2) — Alex Elmore led the Cardinals with two hits and two RBIs. Quentin Boxberger had two hits, scored a run and drove home a run. Cole Steinert and Tony Moore each scored two runs. Moore, Steinert and Layton Haxton each singled.
Winning pitcher Boxberger struck out five batters in five innings. Moore worked the final two innings in relief.
