The No. 1 ranked Central Plains boys (22-0) roll into Friday's WaKeeney basketball substate with a 48-game winning streak.

CENTRAL PLAINS BOYS 59, SYLVAN-LUCAS 17 — After trailing 5-0, Central Plains reeled off 29 consecutive points to dominate the Mustangs 59-17 in Sunday’s 1A substate basketball championship.

Alex Hickel (17), Devin Ryan (16) and Brett Liebl (14) scored in double figures. Ryan drilled a trio of 3-pointers and Hickel made a pair of 3-point plays during the 29-0 scoring run.  The Mustangs were held without a field goal for 11 minutes until Beau Batchman scored.

The No. 1 ranked Oilers (22-0) advance to Friday’s 1A WaKeeney substate against Stockton (8-14). If the Oiler girls and boys both reach Saturday’s championship, the game times will be adjusted to allow for travel time.
