Ellinwood golfer places third

STERLING – Ellinwood’s Drew Heinz stayed hot with three birdies and a 4-over-par 75 (36-39) for a season-low score to earn third medalist honors at Monday’s Sterling Golf Invitational at Sterling Country Club. Heinz birdied Nos. 7, 8 and 14.

Ellinwood also counted fifth-place Mason Moore (85), 10th-place Braden Lewis (91) and 22nd-place Kaden Rowan (102). Winds blew 10 to 15 mph with the temperature hitting 57 degrees.

"It was a great job by the guys, who continue to work towards their goals," said Ellinwood coach Greg Maxwell.

Sterling’s Zach Surface birdied Nos. 7 and 10 to shoot 1-over-par 72. Cheney (336) won the team title over Sterling (346).

CLAFLIN TOURNEY — Ellinwood's Anna Ricker (117) scored a career low. Devyn Johnson (120) played his first 18-hole round and Lily Hoskins (140) also competed Monday at Claflin Golf Course,

Tiger Carlson wins three events at Kinsley

KINSLEY —Pawnee Heights Tiger Brady Carlson swept first place in the high jump (5-8), long jump (19-01/2) and triple jump (41-51/2) at the Kinsley track meet. The Tigers placed runner-up in the 400-meter relay (56.16). Macksville's Hector Gomez won the 100 meters (11.51) and placed second in the 200 (25.23). Pawnee Heights Tiger Abby Hands won the discus (112-8) and javelin (97-10) and placed second in the shot put (33-111/2). Other first-place winners were Macksville's Diana Ibarra, 100 (13.79) and 200 (30.31). Runner-up medals were earned by Macksville's Ava Chadd, long jump (14-93/4) and Pawnee Heights' Abby Pelton, triple jump (30-71/2).
