It was a tale of two halves for the St. John Tigers, who rolled past LeRoy-Southern Coffey County 49-35.

HOISINGTON GIRLS 62, ST. JOHN 60

LARNED — Eight-time Gene Keady champion girls Hoisington outlasted St. John 62-60 in Friday's spectacular semifinal. 

Kylee Hahn led the Cardinals with 19 points and converted a free throw to send the game to overtime. Ellie Crawford added 15 points. Hoisington has captured the past two Keady titles.

St. John led 58-54 when Reed and Bright scored, but the Cardinals rallied with a closing 8-2 burst.

The Cardinals led 48-40 after three quarters, but the Tigers outscored Hoisington 14-6 to force overtime at 54. 

St. John's Lydia Reed scored 18 points and used her height effectively inside on offense and defense. Mia Meyer (14) and Heidi Fisher (12) scored in double figures.

LARNED — South Central's Isiah Jellison led a balanced offense with 11 points as eight Timberwolves scored at least six points to outgun St. John 61-23 in Friday's Keady semifinal.

Quade Smith led St. John with 15 points.

LANGDON — Otis-Bison's Gavin Alloway scored 11 points and 11 Cougars scored points in a 68-7 seventh-place victory over Chase at Friday's Fairfield Falcon Basketball Classic. McVey scored nine points and Kelson Juno and Haselhorst each added seven points.

Chase led 2-0 on Humberto Rincon's basket. Luke Miller scored four points.

LANGDON — Otis-Bison's Abigail Rodriguez (17), Emma Bahr (15) and Destiny Mitchell (12) scored in double figures as the Cougars downed Stafford 64-42 to captured fifth place at the Fairfield Falcon Basketball Classic.

Stafford’s vastly improving Trojans were led by Ines Garcia (15) and Taylor Denio (13).

RUSSELL — The Central Plains Oiler boys secured a 54-24 consolation win against Sylvan-Lucas at the Russell Amos Morris Tournament. The team was led by Aiden Hekele who scored 13 points, but the wealth was spread evenly throughout the whole team. Ryan added 12 points, Klima had 10, and Crites contributed 9. The Oilers play Plainville for fifth place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Connor Charvet led Sylvan-Lucas with nine points.

CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 46, SYLVAN-LUCAS 40

RUSSELL -- The Central Plains Lady Oilers secured their first win of the season with a 46-40 win over Sylvan-Lucas Friday at the Russell Amos Morris Tournament.

The Oilers’ win was sparked by Marilyn Soeken, who put up 17 points, and Addy Ogle, who scored 14.

The Oilers were up at halftime and were able to fend off the Mustang’s late run in the second half to secure the win. The Oilers play the Russell Broncos at 5 p.m. for fifth place Saturday.

QUINTER – Pawnee Heights Tiger Olivia Hands was brilliant with a 25-night outing in a hard-fought 52-39 loss to Quinter in the Castle Rock semifinal.

Abby Hands added seven points for the Tigers. The Tigers play Wheatland for third place Saturday.

Quinter placed Bryn Gillespie (12), Kennedy Werth (11) and Caybrie Kvasnicka (10) in double figures.

SPEARVILLE – Macksville's Diego Esparza, the state's leading scorer at 40 points per game, led the Mustangs with 32 points and six steals to beat Sublette 58-53 in Friday's  Spearville Basketball Tournament.  

Macksville's Hector Gomez scored 15 points with four steals and four rebounds. Kendall Grippin added eight points.

The defending state champion Mustangs (3-0) earn a rematch with South Gray in Saturday's championship game after beating the Rebels in last year's 1A Division 1 state semifinals.

LANGDON – Unbeaten Cunningham used its quickness and athleticism to power past Stafford 57-34 in the championship game of the Fairfield Falcon Basketball Classic.
