Boom sweeps Train Robbers

The Great Bend Boom baseball team completed a two-game home sweep of the Topeka Train Robbers 11-4 Tuesday after an 8-7 walk-off victory Monday at Al Burns Field.
Great Bend (11-11) travels to Garden City Thursday and returns home Friday against Garden City.
• BOOM 11, TRAIN ROBBERS 4 — D.J. Sharabi (5-1) threw eight shutout innings and drove home three runs to spark Great Bend. Sergio Leon drove in three runs.
Sharabi’s sacrifice fly drove home Kirby Campbell in the second inning. Leon drilled a third-inning home run.
Great Bend scored six runs in the fourth. Reece Bell’s RBI single drove home Kedeem Octave. Kirby Campbell scored on Sharabi’s misplayed groundball. Dom Lincoln’s single drove home Bell. Sharabi scored on an error. Leon’s double drove home Lincoln and Tevin Padgett for an 8-0 lead.
Sharabi’s fifth-inning single drove in Campbell. Matt Rembielak’s single drove home Sharabi for a 10-0 lead. Campbell’s sixth-inning double scored Darryl Baca.
Topeka’s Nick Stading homered and Jon Tasis and Charles Reeves delivered RBI hits in a four-run ninth inning.
• BOOM 8, TRAIN ROBBERS 7 — Great Bend’s Campbell delivered a game-winning 10th-inning double that scored Logan Clifton and Sergio Leon to end a four-hour ballgame. Clifton doubled and Leon and Darryl Baca walked to load the bases off pitcher Tyler Shannon. Baca doubled and scored on a wild pitch for a 6-6 tie in the ninth inning.
The Train Robbers were primed to steal a road victory when Gabriel Acevedo’s 10th-inning single scored Chris Scura for a 7-6 lead.
Great Bend scored three third-inning runs on bases-loaded walks to Baca, Campbell and Rembielak. Lincoln’s sacrifice fly scored Baca in the fifth inning. Lincoln’s single scored Campbell in the seventh inning.
