Panther golfer ties for 19th place


DODGE CITY — Great Bend’s Cole Streck birdied two holes and tied for 19th place with a 4-over-par 75 at Dodge City’s Mariah Hills Golf Course. Streck birdied Nos. 7 and 8 and played his front nine in 2-over-par 38.

Scoring conditions were perfect with soft greens and light winds throughout the round at Mariah Hills.

Great Bend (346) placed 12th with 32nd-place Brantl;ey Baldwin (78), 87th-place Scott Hielman (96) and 89th-place Cal Dunekack (97) also counting. 

Andover Central (293) counted scores by Cooper Schultz (71), Austin Goodrum (73), Peyton Wilson (73) and Cooper Ward (76) to capture the state title.  St. Thomas Aquinas (297) placed runner-up and Wichita-Kapaun. Mt. Carmel (298) finished third.

Larned splits baseball twin bill LARNED — Larned's baseball team rallied for a 12-1 second game victory over Lyons. The Lions won the opener. LYONS 5, LARNED 4 (G1)— Lyons' Zayn Zambo scored the game-winning run on Deacon Showalter's fifth-inning groundout. Lyons reliever Anthony "Ace" Ventura retired seven consecutive batters to earn a save. Logan Isaac scored on Ethan's Luck sacrifice fly in a 3-run third inning. Blake Smith and Ventura scored on Porter Anderson's single. David Meyers scored on a fifth-inning error for a 4-2 lead before Zambo scored a fifth run. Carson Shaver scored on Tristan Regan's first-inning single. Camden Bird scored on a Hunter Hobbs' fourth-inning double. Down 5-2, Larned's Andres Gonzalez scored on Mason Miller's single.
