Great Bend golfers earn medals at Salina

SALINA — Great Bend Panther Cailee McMullen continued a strong season with a seventh-place medal (43-39-82) at Monday’s Salina South Invitational at the Salina Muncipal Golf Course.

The Panthers finished fifth (366) with 18th-place Kirsten Miessler (43-48—91); 30th-place Ashlyn Harbaugh, 49-47—96) and 34th-place Kendyl Henning (48-49—97) also counting.
“Our varsity girls posted four 18-hole career bests and a season-best team score of 366, placing fifth of 12 teams,” said Great Bend Travis McAtee. “Cailee McMullen shot 82 for 7th place.  Kirsten Miessler, Ashlyn Harbaugh, and Kendyl Henning also posted career best 18-hole scores.”
Concordia’s Abby Donovan shot 37-36—73 to earn medalist honors with a pair of birdies. Hays High (342) won the team title, six strokes ahead of Salina South (348). Hays High’s Sophia Garrison placed runner-up (40-35—75).
Great Bend travels to Garden City Thursday.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
