Somehow, some way, Great Bend's tennis team won its home invitational title.

Panther No. 2 singles Aiden Stacey, No. 1 doubles Kaden Deines/Chason Ramsey and No. 2 doubles Kai Britt/Kaden Pounds all placed runner-up. Great Bend (48 points) tied Hays Maroon (48) for the team title with Ellinwood (46) two points back.

In first-place matches, Hays High's No. 2 singles Ken Shaffer defeated Stacey 8-3; Hays High's No. 1 doubles Henry Fitzhum/Carsen Rait defeated Kaden Deines/Chason Ramsey, 8-1' asnd  Scott City's No. 1 doubles Houston Frank/Brody Strine downed Kai Britt, Kaden Pounds, 8-6.

The teams competed with winds gusting past 50 mph, creating unpredictable shotmaking.

"We fought through the most wind I’ve seen at a tennis match," said Great Bend coach Chris Manning. "It was tough fighting through the wind. I appreciate everyone’s patience. We played well despite the conditions. Freshman Aiden Stacey continues to impress."

Manning was pleased both doubles teams performed well in windy weather.

"We had great communication by our doubles teams," Manning said. "We're still figuring out who is playing with who. To watch new teams have success is exciting."
