Hoisington Cardinals dominate Lyons track meet

LYONS — Hoisington's double winner Samantha Colson swept the 100 meters (12.98) and 100-meter hurdles (15.99) to spark the Cardinals to first place at the Lyons Wheaton Relays with 242 points.

Colson teamed with Sheena Gocela, Macy Hanzlick and Suzanna Schneider to win the 400-meter relay (50.38).

The Cardinals' other first-place winners were Hanzlick, 200 (27.56); Kylee Hahn, 300 hurdles (50.37); Alyx Lamatsch, 400 (1:04.68); and Jaci Guthrie, 1,600 (6:10.67).

The Larned Indians placed runner-up with 1271/2 points. The Indians won the 1,600-meter relay (4:19.77)  with Jayme Hagerman, Akielah Collins, Savannah Smith and Jaidyn Pinkston.

Larned's first-place finishers were Halle Barker, long jump (16-8); Hagerman, triple jump (36-11/2); Ava Mull, shot put (32-91/2); Cadee Upson, discus (92-9) and Shellamae Farmer, pole vault (10-9).

HOISINGTON BOYS FIRST — Hoisington's Ian Doss swept the 1,600 meters (4:57.77) and 3,20 meters (11:05.15) and Spencer Mintz won the shot put (45-61/2) and discus (125-8) to spark the Cardinals to 195 points and first place.

The Cardinals won the 400-meter relay (44.56) with Cade Mason, Legend Robinson, Dylan Richards and Chase Robinson. The Cardinals won the 3,200 meter relay (8:59.34) with Deryk Yott, Karter Wolf, Dylan Richards and Doss.

Hoisington's other first-place winners were Yott, 400 (53.31) and Jarrett Shives, pole vault (12-6).

Larned's Nathaniel Pfortmiller won the 110-meter hurdles (18.31). The Indians won the 1,600 meter relay (3:42.2) with Luke Wilson, Creighton Haney, Fernando Herrera and Pfortmiller competing.

Minton's shutout sparks sweep over Pratt

BY JIM MISUNAS jmisunas@gbtribune.com PRATT — After Daxton Minton spun a 6-0 shutout, Great Bend completed a hard-fought 7-5 victory to sweep Pratt in Friday's non-league baseball doubleheader. Koehn Ribordy earned a save in game two and led the offense for the Panthers (6-1) with seven runs batted home in the twin bill. PANTHERS 6, PRATT 0 (G1) — Minton (1-0) fashioned a 2-hitter in a masterful 78-pitch outing. Third baseman Trenton Kern turned a double-play on Madden Wilson's fifth-inning groundball. Carson Umphres opened the game with a leadoff homer. Two Pratt errors and a walk led to a 3-run third inning. Koehn Ribordy singled home Kern and Minton. Ribordy scored on Owen Kaiser's single for a 4-0 lead. Ribordy singled home Minton in the fifth inning. Ribordy scored on a seventh-inning wild pitch. PANTHERS 7, PRATT 5 (G2) — Ribordy stayed red hot with two singles and four runs batted home. Ribordy recorded seven outs to earn a save after Slade Mohr pitched 42/3 innings. Pratt led 4-1 after two innings. Owen Schmidt scored on Cresten Pore's first-inning single. Madden Wilson singled in Kameron Cox. Gatlin scored on Craft's single.
