The Hoisington Wrestling Team sent teams two different directions this past Saturday, and turned in some very good results.
The J.V. squad of 10 wrestlers participated in the Thomas More Prep J.V. Tournament and placed seven wrestlers in the top four.

The Hoisington Varsity Team traveled to Pratt to participate in the 49th Annual Pratt Invitational Wrestling Tournament. The tournament was won by 6-A Powerhouse and currently State ranked at number 5 Wichita Northwest, with 201 points followed by Augusta 184, Hoisington 160, Liberal 127, Pratt 113.5, Ulysses 95.5, Andale 66, Goodard Eisenhower 52, Buhler 51, Nickerson 49, Holcomb 31, Chaparral 30, and Larned 8.
Hoisington and Chaparral were the only Class 1-3A teams competing at the tournament. A mix of 4A, 5A, and 6A schools made the tournament one of the best early season tournaments in the State. Hoisington currently ranked 2nd in class 1-3A placed nine wrestlers in the top four at the tournament. Only Wichita Northwest with 10 wrestlers in the top four had more wrestlers place than Hoisington. Leading the way for the Cardinals were brothers Brandon and Jonathan Ball who both placed 1st along with Justin McHenry who also brought home gold.  Landon Harmon rounded out the four wrestlers that the Cardinals got into the finals and placed second. Landen Urban and Hunter Hanzlick finished third, and Chance Boor, KC Stephens, and Christopher Ball finished in fourth place.

“The kids at both tournaments wrestled very well for this point in the season. The Tournament at Pratt was a very good indicator as to where we are at with our varsity kids. I liked the results that I saw. Getting kids on the mat allows you to get a better handle on where time in the practice room needs to be spent. We believe that with hard work we have a very good chance at bringing home hardware from the State Tournament. It is within the grasp of our kids to have one of the best seasons ever at Hoisington. Only time will tell if our team is up to making the best of a great foundation that we started with this past weekend. No one knows better than us how razor thin it is at the top as only one more win at the right time in the State Tournament last year was the difference in bringing home hardware.”
