Hoisington's Hanzlick strikes out 13 batters

HOISINGTON – Hoisington's Holt Hanzlick ignited a doubleheader sweep over Larned with a dominating pitching performance in a 7-4 victory before scoring the game-winning run and throwing out the tying baserunner in a 3-2 victory in the second game.

HOISINGTON 7, LARNED 4 (G1) – Hoisington pitcher Hanzlick struck out 13 batters in a spectacular five-inning performance. Hoisington scored four first-inning runs and held off Larned’s late rally for a 7-4 victory.

Shawn Ingram singled home Jerrod Bieberle to ignite a four-run inning. Hanzlick singled home Ingram. Tony Moore scored on a groundout. Hanzlick scored on a passed ball for a 4-0 lead. Bieberle scored on a Gavin Alvarez error for a 5-0 lead. Hanzlick scored on a third-inning passed ball for a 6-0 lead.

Larned’s Ian Orth scored on a fourth-inning error. Hoisington’s Jacob Umphrey singled home Braxton Linsner in the fourth-inning for a 7-1 lead.

Carlos Ibarra scored Larned’s sixth-inning run on a double play groundball. Mello Bryant doubled home Kyler Semple in the seventh inning, but Shaver was thrown out at home on a relay from left fielder Jacob Umphrey to catcher Jacob Specht. Bryant scored on Ian Orth’s single for a 7-4 final.

HOISINGTON 3, LARNED 2 (G2) – Hanzlick walked and scored the eventual game-winning run on Jacob Specht's sixth-inning single for a 3-1 lead.

Larned's Jack Stelter singled home Dillan Smith for a 3-2 score with two out in the seventh inning. Hoisington catcher Hanzlick ended the game by firing to shortstop Bieberle, who tagged Stelter out to end the ballgame.

Hoisington's Jacob Umphrey and Larned’s Mello Bryant hooked up for a pitcher’s duel in the nightcap.

Hoisington’s Tony Moore doubled and scored a third-inning run when Hanzlick’s groundball was misplayed.

Larned’s Ty Smith singled home Semple in the fourth inning.

Specht and Quentin Boxberger singled in the fourth inning and Specht scored on M.J. Aylward’s groundball.
