LARNED — Larned's Dillan Smith scored the game-winning run on an error as the Indians completed a Central Kansas League baseball sweep over Hoisington with a 5-4 victory Friday. Larned (7-4, 7-4 CKL) won the opener 6-2.

INDIANS 6, CARDINALS 2 (G1) — Larned scored three fifth-inning runs to ice a 6-2 victory. Logan Erway's triple scored Jack Stelter, who reached base on an error. Erway scored on Ian Orth's single. Gavin Alvarez scored on a passed ball for a 6-2 lead.

Larned pitcher Dillan Smith yielded no earned runs in five innings.

Stelter doubled home Aidan Smyth in the first inning. Hoisington's Jack Wikum singled in Layton Haxton for a 1-1 tie. Smith's second-inning single scored Alvarez. Kaden Pontius singled home Stelter for a 3-1 lead.

M.J. Aylward scored the Cardinals' second run on a seventh-inning error.

INDIANS 5, CARDINALS 4 (G2) — Larned rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tag reliever Tony Moore with the loss. Layton Haxton's single scored Gunnar Cline. Tony Moore's double scored Aylward and Cole Steinert's double scored Moore for a 3-0 lead.

Smyth's double scored Dillan Smith and Smyth scored on Brady Hope's third-inning single. Hoisington's Alex Elmore scored on a wild pitch for a 4-2 lead.

Dillan Smith's fourth-inning single scored Ty Smith. Dillan Smith's sixth-inning single scored Ian Orth. Dillan Smith stole third base and scored the game-winning run on a throwing error.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
