HAVEN – Larned reliever Brady Hope retired the final two batters to preserve a 7-6 opening baseball victory over Haven. The Indians (2-3, 2-3 CKL) completed the sweep with a 16-1 victory.
LARNED 7, HAVEN 6 (G1) – Larned led 7-1, but relief pitcher Brady Hope worked out of a bases-loaded situation to preserve a one-run victory.
The Indians scored three fourth-inning runs. Aidan Smyth scored on a passed ball and Kaden Pontius scored on a wild pitch. Hope’s single scored Stelter.
Dillan Smith and Smyth scored on a fifth-inning error for a 5-0 lead.
Haven’s Beniah Yoder scored on Tyler Rogers’ sixth-inning single.
Smith’s single scored Pontius and Stelter’s double scored Pontius for a 7-1 lead.
Haven combined three walks and a hit batter for a five-run seventh inning. Darby Roper scored on D.J. Miller’s single. Jevon Miller scored on an error and D.J. Miller scored on a passed ball. Holden Schroeder’s single scored Hunter Cooprider and Hunter Galloway.
Hope retired Roper on a pitcher to catcher forceout. Second baseman Smyth retired Jevon Miller on a groundout to end te ballgame.
LARNED 16, HAVEN 1 (G2) – Larned scored six runs in the sixth and seven runs in the seventh inning. Pontius drove home three runs and Smyth, Hope and Ian Orth each drove in two runs.
Pontius doubled home Smith, Smyth scored on a wild pitch and Pontius scored on a bases-loaded fourth-inning walk.
Pontius drilled a two-run single and Jacob Grosfield, Eian Sanders, Orth, Smyth drove in runs in the sixth inning.
Hope hit a two-run single and Smith and Smyth delivered RBI singles in the seventh inning. The Indians scored on two wild pitched and a wild pitch.
