WICHITA — Medalist Addy Nicholson (19:12.9) led the No. 1 ranked 5A Great Bend Panther girls to the Wichita Carroll team title with 34 points to outdistance runner-up Wichita Carroll (61).

“What we liked was Addy beat a girl from Kapaun-Mt. Carmel (Taylor Barringer) who was the fourth fastest 5A girl at Rim Rock," said Great Bend coach Lyles Lashley. "The second Kapaun girl (Amelia Hermann) ran sub-19 minutes at Rim Rock. It's good to see our girls competing with those girls."

Four Panthers earned top 10 medals and five runners improved times from the 2022 Wichita Carroll meet.

The other Panther runners all finished in the top 25, earning top 25 medals.

Fourth-place Marissa Boone (20:06.7) improved 25 seconds to edge Carroll's fifth-place 3,200-meter state placer Brooke Martin. sixth-place Eliana Beckham (20:19.8) cut 16 seconds and ninth-place Sienna Smith (20:52.7) improved 11 seconds. Morgan Beckwith (21:24.7) placed 14th and improved her time by 12 seconds.

“The girls took care of business. Eight of nine girls medaled in the top 25," Lashley said. "Our freshmen girls were excited to step and help the varsity. The runners competed well. We had a gap one through five that was 56 seconds at Rim Rock and our gap at Wichita was 1:40. We'd like to see that at a minute.."

Great Bend Panther Tavon Stroup (17:16.2) led the Panther boys with a 15th-place medal (17:16.2). He improved his time by 72 seconds from last year. Braylon Moore (18:32.3) improved his time from 2022 by 51 seconds. Maize's Kaleb Glazier (15:55.8) earned medalist honors.

“Tavin ran a controlled race from start-to-finish on a legit course ran a 17:16,” Lashley said. “He earned his first varsity medal. The boys competed well. One through four ran really well. It was a good weekend.”
