No-hitter sparks Cardinal softball

HOISINGTON — Hoisington pitcher Kassidy Nixon threw a four-inning no-hitter after driving home six runs in the opener to spark the Cardinals to a 16-1 and 15-0 sweep of Hesston in Tuesday’s Central Kansas League doubleheader.

Second-place Hoisington (8-2, 8-2 CKL) plays Ellinwood (6-2) and Great Bend (6-4) Thursday at home starting at 4 p.m.

HOISINGTON 16, HESSTON 1 (G1) — Nixon drilled a game-ending three-run homer off pitcher Emily Schmidt for a 15-run rule victory. Hoisington pitcher Taylor Boxberger (5-2) struck out six batters in four innings.

Nixon hit a two-run single and Gracie Aylward and Kadence Urban added RBI singles in a six-run first inning. Hesston committed four errors and handed the Cardinals three walks in a seven-run second inning. Livvy Brewer hit an RBI single for a 13-1 lead.

Nixon drove home Jenny Urban and Boxberger on the game-ending homer. 

HOISINGTON 15, HESSTON 0 (G2) — Skylar Eidson drove home four runs and Brooke Steinert added a pair of RBIs in the nightcap. Brooke Steinert’s RBI single ended the game after an 11-run fourth inning.

Aylward hit a two-run homer after Eidson’s RBI first-inning double. Eidson;s groundout scored Brewer in a two-run second inning.

Eidson delivered a two-run single and Keeley Wolf, Destiny Hurley and Kadence Urban added RBIs in the 11-run fourth inning.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
