Cardinals, Cougars make finals

 

HOISINGTON – The three-time defending champion Hoisington Cardinal boys and Otis-Bison girls reached the Hoisington Winter Jam championship games.

HOISINGTON BOYS 45, PRATT 35 – The Cardinals scored the final eight points for a hard-fought 45-35 semifinal victory. The Cardinals (5-5) have captured first in the past three Winter Jams.

Hoisington’s Mason Haxton scored 18 points and the Cardinals outscored Pratt 13-5 from the free throw line.

VICTORIA BOYS 60, RUSSELL 59 – No. 8 seed Victoria drilled 11 3-point goals to outlast Russell in Friday’s semifinals. Oberle scored 15 points and Windholz added 14 points.

Russell’s Austin Price scored 25 points with six 3-point goals. Price hit a 3-pointer to get the Broncos within 59-57 and Glenn Law’s last-second score made it 60-59.

OTIS-BISON GIRLS 49, RUSSELL 44 – Cougar Maddie Wiltse scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to spark Otis-Bison past two-time champion Russell 49-44 in Friday’s semifinals. Wiltse scored twice off free-throw misses in the third period, one to complete a four-point trip after Cora Anderson’s basket. Anderson contributed 11 points and 15 rebounds. The Cougars dominated with 22 offensive rebounds that led to second-chance points.

The Broncos sliced the lead to 40-39 on Tiffany Dortland’s 3-pointer. But the Cougars preserved the victory on fourth-quarter free throws by  Wiltse, Anderson and Cristen Trapp, who converted a  crucial pair for a 48-44 lead.

PRATT GIRLS 61, ELLINWOOD 23 – Pratt’s Allisan McGowan scored 21 points and Rheagan Hoover added 19 points as the Greenbacks roared past Ellinwood in Friday’s semifinals.

Ellinwood’s Daphne Doll scored eight points and Mya Maxwell added seven points.
