Great Bend Panther Ellis Long broke up Manhattan’s dominance with a first-place medal in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.31) at Monday’s home swimming meet at Barton Community College.

Long earned a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle (24.33) along with a pair of relay runner-up finishes. The Panthers quartet of Long, Beau Burkhart, Kasey Kennedy and Adam Hall (1:42.41) competed in the 200 freestyle relay. Long teamed with Ty Boone, Kennedy and Burkhart (1:53.51) on the 200 medley relay.

Manhattan (559) placed first followed by Garden City (450.5) and Great Bend (360.5). The Panthers recorded several season-best times for coach Clara Gilbert.

Cardinal wins golf title LAKE BARTON — Hoisington's Jake Mooney shot an 82 to edge Larned's Brennon Stahlecker (83) by one shot at the Lake Barton golf invitational April 3. Hoisington's Nolan Jacobs (87) placed fourth and Logan Cossell (89) tied for fifth place.
