Cardinal qualifies for 36 holes

TOPEKA — Hoisington High's Logan Cossel finished 33rd (164) at the 3A state golf tournament at Lake Shawnee Golf Course. Cossel shots rounds of 77 and 87. Cossel birdied No. 1 Tuesday.

Hoisington's Bryson Kinman placed 48th (175) after shooting rounds of 82 and 95. Kinman birdied No. 5 Tuesday.

Larned Indian Gavin Collins finished 70th (91) at Lake Shawnee.

Wichita Collegiate's Landon Langston earned medalist honors (145) after rounds of 70 and 75 with seven birdies. Collegiate's Brock Esterline was runner-up (149) with rounds of 74 and 75.

Panthers miss cut

WICHITA — Great Bend's Ethan Somers placed 43rd with an 82 missed the 18-hole cut for individuals by one stroke.

Alec Premer placed 84th (95) and Cal Schartz (98) 98th to miss qualifying for the second round of the 5A state golf tournament at Wichita's Tallgrass Country Club.

Eagles' Heinz places 30th

WINFIELD — Ellinwood's Luke Heinz (176) placed 30th at the 2A state golf tournament at Quail Ridge Golf Course. Heinz shot 18-hole rounds of 86 and 88.

Ellinwood placed 10th (382) to miss the 18-hole cut.

Eagles who counted in the team score were 58th-place Austin Brack (94), 72nd-place Austin Shinliver (101) and Keaton Lewis (101).

Remi Thomas placed 74th (102) and Trevor Gosser 91st (124) at Quail Ridge Golf Course.

Salina Sacred Heart (643, 31-333) captured its 11th consecutive 2A state title ahead of Syracuse (649, 324-325). Humboldt's Connor Newman (144, 71-73) earned medalist honors over Topeka Cair Paravel's Caleb Cleverdon (149, 73-76).

Tiger misses cut

MCPHERSON — St. John Tiger Braxton Alpers shot (89) to miss the 18-hole cut for individuals by one stroke at the 1A state golf tournament at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.
