Panthers wrestlers win 6 matches, lose 45-25

No. 2 ranked 5A Great Bend won six matches, but No. 1 ranked 6A Manhattan rolled to a 45-25 dual match victory Thursday. The Indians feature nine state-ranked wrestlers.

Four matches featured state-ranked wrestlers that return 10 state medal winners from last year. Manhattan placed fourth in 6A and Great Bend finished fourth in 5A last year.

Great Bend's Michael Montoya (165) pinned Kadin Dibbin (1:44).

Winning decisions were Panthers Hayden Liles (126), No. 1 ranked Kaiden Hoffman (132), No. 2 ranked Jace Schartz (157) and No. 1 ranked Trenton Kern (190). Last year, Hoffman was a state runner-up (126), Schartz (144) and Kern (190) both placed fifth in 5A last year.

Liles downed No. 6 ranked Cameron Coonrod, 7-6. Hoffman edged Brecken Crist Funk, 5-3. Schartz downed No. 3 ranked Ben Uher, 11-1. Kern outlasted No. 6 ranked Landon Dobson, 9-6.

Manhattan's No. 4 ranked 6A Ray Gary Hernandez pinned No. 4 ranked Matthew Johnson (3:35). Johnson placed fourth at state last year. Manhattan's Caeleb Hutchinson (106) and Jameal Agnew (132) won 6A state titles last year. No. 1 Logan Lagerman (144) and No. 3 ranked Clay Frehn (285) each placed third at state last year.
