ASHLAND BOYS 58, PAWNEE HEIGHTS 52

 

ROZEL – Ashland’s boys outscored Pawnee Heights 9-3 down the stretch for a 58-52 Southern Plains Iroquois Activities Association basketball victory.

The Tigers tied the game at 49 when Dalton Hamby sunk a 3-pointer off a Kade Scott pass.

Ashland scored the next six points. Greysen Gardiner scored on a drive followed by another Gardiner basket. Brennan Grady scored off a steal for a 55-49 lead with 55 seconds left.

Pawnee Heights (7-1, 3-1) was paced by Kade Scott with 23 points and Harrison VanMeter added 18 points.

Ashland’s Grady scored 12 points. Konnor Maule, Gardiner and Cody Lohrding each scored 10 points.

Ashland played an effective box-and-one defense against high-scoring Kade Scott, averaging 28 ppg. Chris White blocked a pair of shots and Cody Lohrding also defended Scott.

“Ashland is a very good ball club, and we always kind of have a mental block against them,” said Pawnee Heights coach Gustavo Flores.

PAWNEE HEIGHTS 41, ASHLAND 15 – The Pawnee Heights girls rolled past Ashland 41-15 in a Southern Plains Iroquois Activities Association basketball game.

Pawnee Heights (6-2, 2-2) was paced by Jaden Carlson with 13 points and Madison Polson added seven points. Ashlee Miller scored six points had three assists, three steals and took a charge. Katie Amspacker tallied eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Larned softball wins opener LARNED — Larned's softball team scored 39 runs to dominate the Ellis Railroaders 21-4 and 18-5 in Friday's doubleheader. LARNED 21, ELLIS 4 (G1) — Larned's Brooks Simmons tripled and drove home a trio of runs. Driving home a pair of runs were Eowyn Hedding, Maya Wilson, Teagan Walker, Jadyn Crosby and Jillian Hagerman. Hagerman and Karley Lemuz each doubled. Lemuz (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. The Indians took advantage of nine walks, seven errors, six wild pitches and two hit batters. Ellis' Maleah Vine drove home two runs. Rylan Aschenbrenner had an RBI LARNED 18, ELLIS 5 (G2) — Larned's Hedding doubled and drove in three runs. Walker and Hagerman each drove in two runs. Driving home one run were Lemuz, Brooke Simmins, Crosby, Ivy Hope and Gillian Smith. Crosby (2-0) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Railroader Vine drove home two runs.
