Pedigo sparks Cardinals past Cimarron

CIMARRON — Hoisington High tailback Wyatt Pedigo scored four touchdowns to spark the Cardinals past Cimarron 41-18 in Friday’s 2A playoff game.

Pedigo rushed for 122 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns. Xavier Robinson gained a career high 171 yards and scored on 17- and 75-yard runs.

Hoisington (8-2) eliminated Cimarron (8-2) in the playoffs for the fourth time in five years. The Cardinals qualify for the quarterfinals for the fifth time in school history against Hutchinson Trinity (8-1).

The Cardinals earned five takeaways, which they converted into a pair of first-half touchdowns. Braxton Donovan and Robinson intercepted passes and Cameron Schneweis recovered a fumble.

Wyatt Pedigo scored on a 3-yard run for an opening touchdown after a takeaway. The Bluejays reached the Cardinal 3-yard line when the Cardinals responded with Xavier Robinson’s 75-yard touchdown run for  97-yard scoring drive for a 13-6 lead.

The Cardinals scored two touchdowns in the final two minutes for a 27-12 halftime lead. Pedigo added a 2-yard score and a perfectly executed 21-yard screen pass from Mason Haxton on the final play of the half.

Pedigo disrupted the Bluejays’ running game with outstanding linebacker play.
