ST. JOHN — Layne Bieberle scored 27 points for the Central Plains High School boys’ basketball team.
It just wasn’t enough to top St. John-Hudson, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll.
Tigers junior Dean Wade dropped in a team-leading 25 points, and senior Zuriel Reyes added 23 points, including five 3-pointers.
Jacob Milton scored 11 points for the Tigers.
Braeden Crites added nine points as the Oilers’ No. 2 scorer.

Otis-Bison 53, Ellinwood 13
ELLINWOOD — Otis-Bison’s Kyle Patrick scored 22 points to lead his team over Ellinwood on Tuesday night on the road.
Ellinwood, which falls to 2-3 on the season, couldn’t match the Cougars’ intensity.
The Eagles were led by Marc Waite and Kaleb Schartz, who each scored four points.

Larned 53, Hutchinson Trinity 39
LARNED — Larned led 17-6 after eight minutes of play against Hutchinson Trinity.
The Indians coasted from there, led by Trey Kraisinger, who finished with 12 points.
Jake Zimmerman added 10 points as Larned had nine players contribute to the score.

GIRLS

Hutchinson Trinity 52,
Larned 30
LARNED — Larned could not keep up with Hutchinson Trinity.
Trinity led 30-18 at halftime, and continued to add to its lead throughout the second half.
Tiara Diaz led Larned, scoring three 3-pointers on her way to 15 points.

HAYS — Sylvan Grove’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Ellinwood on Colin Obermueller’s game-winning single in Wednesday’s AA Russell Zone baseball tournament. The game was moved to Hays from Russell because of a unplayable field.Ellinwood (9-10) plays Thursday against the Marysville-Smith Center loser.Ellinwood led 4-1 after 41/2 innings. Sylvan Grove led 1-0 when Dylan Fry scored a first-inning run.Ellinwood’s Levi Swenson scored a second-inning run on a double steal with Evan Johanning.
