Central Plains 42
ST. JOHN — The St. John High School boys’ basketball team claimed the St. John Lions Club Mid-Winter Classic title on Saturday evening.
The Tigers led early on, but Central Plains closed the gap to 34-31 heading into the final eight minutes.
Dean Wade led St. John, scoring 23 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Zuriel Reyes added 13 points.
Central Plains’ Layne Bieberle scored a team-leading 23 points. Michael Ryan added eight points.

Larned 53, Pratt 46
ST. JOHN — Larned finished third at the St. John Lions Club Mid-Winter Classic, leading Pratt nearly throughout.
Camryn Bryant led Larned with 11 points.
Grant Unruh and Brayden Smith each finished with 10 points, and Tyler Stelter added nine.

Medicine Lodge 54,
Macksville 48
ST. JOHN — Macksville outscored Medicine Lodge 19-15 in the final quarter, but couldn’t get back into the game as time ran out at the St. John Lions Club Mid-Winter Classic.
Simon Miller scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Tanner Tranbarger added 14 points for Macksville.

FRIDAY

BOYS
Central Plains 61, Pratt 42
ST. JOHN — Central Plains started slow.
The Oilers trailed 17-11 after one quarter, but recovered in the second quarter, out scoring the Greenbacks 19-10 for a 30-27 advantage at intermission.
Central Plains continued to pull away in the second half.
Braedan Crites led the Oilers with 23 points. He went 13-for-15 from the free-throw line.
Layne Bieberle scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Michael Ryan added 14 points for Central Plains.

Macksville 51, Ness City 48
ST. JOHN — Ness City outscored Macksville 20-8 in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs built a large enough lead to hold on.
Tanner Tranbarger led Macksville with 28 points.
Simon Miller scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Minneapolis 57,
Otis-Bison 32
HOISINGTON — Minneapolis looked destined for the Hoisington Winter Jam’s championship game at halftime, leading 33-8.
The Cougars’ offense picked up their pace in the second half, but couldn’t dig themselves out of their hole.
Kyle Patrick led Otis-Bison with 15 points.

GIRLS

Ellinwood 45, Russell 39
HOISINGTON — Russell closed the gap in the third quarter, trailing Ellinwood 36-35 heading into the final eight minutes.
The Lady Eagles put Russell away in the semifinal game of the Hoisington Winter Jam.
Sophie Hayes led Ellinwood with 12 points.
Kelsea Ward added 10 points for the Lady Eagles.

Minneapolis 36,
Hoisington 33
HOISINGTON — Hoisington trailed 24-23 heading into the final quarter of the Hoisington Winter Jam semifinal game.
The Lady Cardinals couldn’t overtake Minneapolis in front of the hometown crowd.
Jordin Greer scored a game-high 13 points.
Rylie Koester added 12 points.
