Class 3-2-1A girls tennis at state

WICHITA — The Claflin High School girls’ tennis team finished in fourth place at the Class 3-2-1A state tournament while Ellinwood took seventh place.
Claflin had a singles player and a doubles team advance past the elimination round on Friday. Allie Hipp finished in fourth place at state in the singles competition after losing to Ashley Koester of Conway Springs in the third-place match, 6-1, 6-2.
Morgan Hekele and Norel Kirmer finished in sixth in the doubles competition for the Lady Wildcats.
Ellinwood advanced the Bailey Schartz and Michelle Miller doubles team to Saturday’s competition. The team finished in fourth place, losing to Emily Ramseyer and Jillian Poynter of Wichita Independent, 6-4, 7-6 (2).

Larned hosts MCAA cross country meet

LARNED — The Larned High School cross country team won the Mid-Central Activities Association boys’ title while Ellinwood’s girls finished in first place at the conference meet on Thursday.
Ellinwood had the top finisher in the boys’ race, Pedro Montoya with a time of 17 minutes, 25 seconds. Thomas More Prep-Marian’s Heather Ruder won the girls’ race at 16:03.
