HAYS — Great Bend’s top scorer Carley Brack tried to inspire her basketball teammates through three quarters.
But Brack’s effort wasn’t nearly enough as Western Athletic Conference rival Hays High easily rolled past the offensive-challenged Panthers 50-35 for third place in the Gerald Mitchell Hays City Shootout. Jaycee Dale scored seven straight points for a 21-12 Indian second-quarter lead.
Brack scored 12 points through three quarters and Carly Dreiling added 11 points. Brack and Dreiling earned Hays City Shootout All-Tournament honors.
But the Panthers were a step slow all day playing their third basketball game in three days. The other Panthers contributed two baskets in the final three quarters as they misfired throughout the ballgame. The topsy-turvy game featured nearly a dozen offensive fouls. Jaycee Dale led Hays High with 14 points and Savannah Schneider added 13 points. The Panthers play again Dec. 10 at home against Junction City.
