Central Plains 42, Victoria 24
Vindicated.
Central Plains High School’s football team conquered Victoria to open the season on Friday night.
The Oilers led 26-12 at halftime, but scored 16 unanswered points in the final quarter to put the game away.
As was the case last season, quarterback Braedan Crites connecting with receiver Layne Beiberle accounted for a majority of Central Plains’ touchdowns.
Against the Knights, the Crites-Bieberle dynamic duo scored three touchdowns. Of Crites’ 14 of 32 passes completed, Crites found Bieberle eight times for 120 yards.
Crites finished with 219 passing yards and three TDs in the air, along with a team-leading 70 rushing yards and two scores.
Jacob Warnken added 28 yards and one touchdown.
Ellinwood 40, St. John-Hudson 20
Ellinwood made the most of its first trip into the world of eight-man football.
The Eagles came away with its first win in years, beating Central Prairie League opponent St. John on Friday.
Ellinwood found the end zone three times in the first half, leading 18-6 at halftime.
Jordan Duvall rushed for 214 yards and three touchdowns.
Kaleb Schartz added 65 yards on the ground.
Tyson Martinez went 3-for-3 for 134 yards and two TDs.
Marc Waite completed 3 of 7 passes for 45 yards and one touchdown.
Waite was also the leading receiver with two catches for 83 yards and one TD.
Duvall and Tate Fisher were also on the receiving end of a touchdown pass.
Otis-Bison 56, Macksville 6
It was not the beginning to his coaching career that Macksville’s Chet Skinner was looking for.
Otis-Bison led 36-6 after one quarter and turned in a dominating performance for a 45-point rule at halftime to end the game.
Mustangs quarterback Diego Delgadillo completed 7 of 13 passes for 101 yards and one TD. He also threw an interception.
Christian Acosta led Macksville at receiver. He had four catches for 60 yards and one touchdown.
Macksville’s running game didn’t really get off the ground.
Jesus Saavedra had 12 carries for 39 yards.
Stafford 34, Pretty Prairie 26
A late-game surge led Stafford over Pretty Prairie.
The Trojans scored first, leading 6-0 after one quarter, but Pretty Prairie took over in the second quarter 14-6 heading into halftime.
Stafford put the game away in the fourth quarter with 20 points.
Parker Patterson took over at quarterback, throwing for 99 yards and two touchdowns. He threw one pick.
Ethan Johnson was the leader for the Trojans, rushing for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
Jesus Herrera added a rushing touchdown and 30 yards.
