HOISINGTON – Halfback Cameron Davis scored three touchdowns and Hoisington’s defense dominated Garden Plain in a 49-8 Class 3A quarterfinal victory Friday over the Owls.
The No. 1 ranked Cardinals (12-0) travel to Central Kansas League member Hesston (9-3) for the 3A semifinals Nov. 18. The Cardinals have broken a school record with 12 victories.
“The boys really played good football,” said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. “Defense, offense and special teams were all good. It’s great to play a complete game.”
Davis scored on runs of 4, 46 and 81 yards and rushed for 216 yards off the Cardinals’ outside toss play. Tailback Sean Urban scored two touchdowns sandwiched around Davis’ 81-yard score for a 20-0 lead. The Cardinals rushed for 465 yards behind a dominating offensive line.
“Cameron is really playing great and our offensive line played well,” Baird said.
Brenner Donovan intercepted two passes and scored on a 99-yard interception return for a 42-0 lead. Wyatt Pedigo set up Hoisington’s fifth touchdown with an interception.
“Our secondary was really good and we got good pressure on the quarterback,” Baird said. “We tackled well up front.”
The Cardinals played without 1,500-yard tailback Hunter Hanzlick, who was sidelined after an elbow injury.
