RUSSELL — Ellinwood High School’s boys’ basketball team took an early lead and held on to beat Russell 54-41 on Friday night.
The Eagles were led by Kaleb Schartz, who finished with a game-high 20 points.
Marc Waite added 12 points.

Ness City 57
Jordan Welch shot 60 percent from 3-point range, scoring 26 points to lead Macksville over Ness City in its season opener.
Macksville led 10-9 after eight minutes, but took off for a 32-23 lead at halftime.
Tanner Tranbarger finished with 20 points for  the Mustangs. He also had five steals.
Simon Miller added 15 points and nine rebounds.
