GBHS wrestlers lose dual matches

LIBERAL — Great Bend’s wrestling team lost a pair of dual matches Thursday, 64-9 to No. 1 ranked Class 6A Garden City and 57-16 to Liberal.
Great Bend’s Christian Rivas (160) won two matches, but No. 3 ranked Cody Liles (132) split a pair of matches after moving up a weight to meet a top-ranked wrestler.
Rivas (21-4) defeated Garden City’s Quinton LaPointe 8-2. He downed Liberal’s Nikeo Garcia 13-4. Jose Batres (182) pinned Garden City’s David SanJuan in 43 seconds. The Buffaloes feature eight state-ranked wrestlers.
No. 1 ranked Garden City’s Michael Prieto, a returning Class 6A state champion, beat Liles 8-2 in a featured 138-pound match. Liles (31-3) rallied for a 12-1 victory over Liberal’s Emanuel Peralta. Panther Eric Vasquez (126) defeated Liberal’s Alex Chim 13-4 and Keegan Bowman (17) downed Liberal’s Misael Monarrez 13-0.
