LAWRENCE — Lawrence Free State raced past Great Bend’s girls 56-43 Thursday at the Free State Tournament. The Freebirds converted seven 3-pointers the first half for a 32-23 lead.
Free State’s Jaycie Bishop made a trio of 3-pointers, Caiti Schlesener made a pair and Jaelyn Two Hearts and Madison Piper each made one 3-pointer.
Carley Brack led the Panthers (7-3) with 21 points. Lauren Welsch added nine points. The Panthers made 15 of 46 field goals.
The Panthers held all-stater Madison Piper to seven points.
“They had kids step up and knock down threes,” said Great Bend coach Carrie Minton. “We worked hard to contain Piper. We did a good job keeping the ball out of her hands.”
