GARDEN CITY — Led by Grant Harris, who was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, the Great Bend High School boys’ tennis team finished third at the WAC tournament on Monday afternoon.
The Panthers finished with seven points.
Host Garden City won the tournament with 14 points and Dodge City placed second with 10.
Harris won the No. 1 singles competition, sweeping the field.
In four matches, he only allowed his opponents a total of six sets, beating Garden City 8-1, Hays 8-1, Liberal 8-1 and Dodge City 8-3.
All three of the other Great Bend entries finished in fourth.
Jun Rui Chen went 1-3 in the No. 2 singles competition.
Justin Kuhlman and Daniel Marshall went 1-3 in No. 1 doubles and Jermaine Lopez and Santi Talamantes combined to go 1-3 in No. 2 doubles.
Great Bend will compete in a Class 5A regional tournament on Saturday at Valley Center.
Hays, Maize South, Newton, Salina Central, Salina South and host Valley Center will all be in attendance.
