Keady Classic names all-tournament teams

LARNED — Gene Keady Classic champion St. John placed Most Valuable Player Cole Kinnamon and Jorge Calleros on the 2015 All-Tournament team. The Tigers beat Larned 55-43 to capture their fourth consecutive Gene Keady Classic championship.
The Tigers are riding a state-record 63-game winning streak. The Tigers have captured three consecutive state basketball championships.
Kinsley’s Kameron Carey scored 79 points with a high game of 33 points to lead the boys scoring. Kinsley’s Carey won the 3-point contest. St. John’s Kinnamon won the free throw contest.
Rylie Koester of girls champion Hoisington High dominated the competition. Koester scored 55 points, second highest total, and captured the tournament’s 3-point contest and free throw contest. Cardinals Emma Harmon and Karisa Schremmer were also named all-tournament. The Cardinals beat Spearville 41-28 in the title game.
Kinsley’s Scout Frame led the tournament with 64 points, including a high game of 24 points.

HAYS — Sylvan Grove’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Ellinwood on Colin Obermueller’s game-winning single in Wednesday’s AA Russell Zone baseball tournament. The game was moved to Hays from Russell because of a unplayable field.Ellinwood (9-10) plays Thursday against the Marysville-Smith Center loser.Ellinwood led 4-1 after 41/2 innings. Sylvan Grove led 1-0 when Dylan Fry scored a first-inning run.Ellinwood’s Levi Swenson scored a second-inning run on a double steal with Evan Johanning.
