HOISINGTON — The Hoisington High School softball team split a doubleheader with Canton-Galva on Thursday.
The Lady Cardinals were able to win 2-1 in the first game, but they fell 4-1 in 11 innings in the second.
Haley Acker scored both runs for Hoisington in the first game. Hannah Kircher had an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning and Deiah Curtis drove Acker across the plate in the fourth.
“It was a good defensive battle,” Hoisington head coach Lee Van Scyoc said. “The wind was blowing in, so the outfielders could play in a little bit. That made it hard to get hits.”
Bailey Barnard recorded the win for Hoisington, which is 5-5 this season.
Tana Hickel took the mound in the second game. which saw both teams score one run in regulation before Canton-Galva plated three in the 11th.
Jennifer Hitschmann drove in the lone run for the Lady Cardinals in Game 2.
Hoisington (5-5) travels to Lyons for a doubleheader today. The first game begins at 4:30 p.m.

HAYS — Sylvan Grove’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Ellinwood on Colin Obermueller’s game-winning single in Wednesday’s AA Russell Zone baseball tournament. The game was moved to Hays from Russell because of a unplayable field.Ellinwood (9-10) plays Thursday against the Marysville-Smith Center loser.Ellinwood led 4-1 after 41/2 innings. Sylvan Grove led 1-0 when Dylan Fry scored a first-inning run.Ellinwood’s Levi Swenson scored a second-inning run on a double steal with Evan Johanning.
