Lady Oilers beat Pitt-Colgan in 2A state quarterfinals

MANHATTAN — One step closer.
The Central Plains High School girls’ basketball passed Pittsburg-Colgan in a quarterfinal game of the Class 2A State Tournament.
The Lady Oilers took an early lead and held onto it for a 47-38 win on Wednesday afternoon at Manhattan’s Bramlage Coliseum.
Central Plains improved to 24-0 this season, and with the win, the Lady Oilers are guaranteed two more games and at least fourth place at state.
Central Plains held a 25-15 lead at halftime, but the Lady Panthers looked to set up a rally, cutting into the lead 31-25.
The Lady Oilers were able to step things up to shut down any chance of the rally with 16 points in the fourth quarter.
Central Plains went 19-for-47 (40.4 percent) from the field. Pitt-Colgan went 14-for-31 (45.2 percent).
The difference-maker was the turnovers.
Central Plains forced 18 turnovers, led by Reagan Phelan, who had seven steals.
Phelan also led in scoring with 20 points.
Taylor Rolfs added 10 points for the Lady Oilers.
Central Plains’ Breanna Holmes had nine rebounds and eight points.
Central Plains advances to a semifinal game on Friday at 3 p.m. against Meade, which is 20-4 after defeating Olpe 61-49 in the quarterfinals.
