NEWTON — In the final swim meet before the Western Athletic Conference meet in Hays, the Great Bend High School girls’ team finished second at Newton.
Newton won the meet with 400 points. The Lady Panthers finished with 275 points.
“We were solid and had a few nice time improvements,” GBHS head coach Steve Beaumont said. “It’s time to get rested and ready to swim fast at WAC next Thursday. That’s been our goal all season.”
Great Bend didn’t manage a first-place finish in any events, but had a pair of second-place finishes.
Hannah Hildebrand captured second place in the 100-meter butterfly, clocking in at 1:03.87.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Hildebrand, Kira Cook, Kylee Spray and Michaela Cape combined to finish in second place, touching in at 1:50.50.
Great Bend travels to Hays on Thursday for the conference meet, starting at 4 p.m.
